NYFW Fall 2014 - Katya Zol

During New York Fashion Week, I had a chance to check out Katya Zol's Fall 2014 runway show at Lincoln Center. Katya, the Mongolian-born designer, embraced her heritage and started the show with performances by a Mongolian singer and acrobat performer. The runway show that followed was even more spectacular. There was a heavy tribal influence in her designs yet the collection was also very modern. Her pieces featured beautifully crafted wool, cashmere, felt, and leather. All of the designs that came down the runway were incredible but I especially loved the chic yet comfortable and wearable coats. My favourite? The pale blue coat with thick fuzzy trim!

Love these as much as I do? You can see the full runway show here:

New York, New York

New York City is a place I can never get tired of visiting. I'm fortunate to have been able to make my visits to the big apple an annual occurrence in the past few years. This year, I got a snowy surprise upon arrival. It was so cold I couldn't feel my face but was it ever beautiful! I had a chance to walk through Central Park and witness it being transformed into a winter wonderland overnight. Coupled with visits to Ladurée and Bergdorf Cafe, this visit also satisfied my cravings... for now! I was also lucky that this trip coincided with New York Fashion Week so I got to check out a few things and join in on the fun. More posts coming up soon!

Roses & Sunsets

F21 dress, Chanel baguette, Valentino pumps, Express belt, LOVECOCO Necklace

Last weekend, I had a chance to dress up and take some photos in a beautiful foggy sunset before our friends' wedding. Mixing high and low, I wore a F21 dress with my beloved Valentino pumps and Chanel bag. I love a great print and these black on white rosettes are perfect for this dress in a lady-like silhouette. This may be the last days of twirling in a sleeveless dress for awhile as I'm heading over to New York City in a couple of days to brave the cold! Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the trip and hope to post some updates shortly!

NYFW Fall 2014 - CZAR by Cesar Galindo

The CZAR by Cesar Galindo Fall 2014 presentation at NYFW featured Cesar's signature "social occasion” dresses and separates. Having designed for L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Calvin Klein, Cesar is clearly a refined designer with his new collection of classic yet futuristic pieces. I was impressed with the range of the collection. From sophisticated A-line dresses with digital graphics to futuristic-cool separates with unique textures and shapes, my top pick was the white "feather-like" dress that almost looks like a top and a skirt. The best part? I also got a chance to see the backstage action before the show. It was a beautiful chaos where models were being glammed up by Mary Kay makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff and OriginalMineral Hair's creative director Janelle Chaplin. As I always say, seeing the hard work behind the scenes makes you appreciate the final looks that much more!

Snow Day

Club Monaco polka-dot top, Zara coat, Rachel Roy jeans, Christian Louboutin shoes, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag, Tiffany & Co and LOVECOCO Jewelry

It's amazing how a dash of snow can add a whole lot of magic to an already beautiful city. We got a snowy surprise last weekend in Vancouver and I couldn't have been happier! While I'm sure the east coast has had enough of it, I really enjoyed this glimpse of snow in my city.  It was the perfect kind of snowfall that melted on the roads but stuck beautifully on rooftops and tree branches. Naturally, we took the opportunity to get a few photos in. This sheer dotted blouse from Club Monaco is my favourite top at the moment and happens to be a perfect match to the backdrop! Keeping with the light and muted color scheme, I took my new 3.1 Phillip Lim mini pashli out for some fresh air.  This adorable little mini bag was a last minute purchase from Barney's in New York.  While I love all of the new colors in his spring 2014 collection, this "cloud" color with gunmetal hardware really stood out. It was only after coming home with this bag that I realized how versatile the color powder blue can be, which means you'll be seeing this bag a lot as we head into spring and summer!
